Laser Tools Digital Infrared Thermometer

Laser Tools Digital Infrared Thermometer

These are great for rapidly working out which cylinder or cylinders are miss firing on a multi cylinder engine, simply by measuring the temperature of the exhaust headers. In the old days we would spit on a finger and gently touch the exhaust header determining the hottest by the sound of boiling spit or the smell and accompanying pain of burning flesh, if one wasn't quick enough. Having used both methods, all at Biker's Toolbox agree that for slightly over thirty quid it's a no brainer.

• Range -50° to +650°C (-58° to +1202°F), selectable from fahrenheit to centigrade. Includes backlight, hold and MIN/MAX data recording.

• CE, UKCA & RoHS compliant.

• Distance to spot 12:1.

• 1 x 9V battery included.

• Auto power off with automatic data hold and laser target pointer.

Dial Test Indicator Set

Dial Test Indicator Set

Ralph was lent this set by Laser Tools to test and review for Classic Motorcycle Mechanics magazine. He was so impressed he wouldn't let them have it back, despite already owning a top of the range digital Mitutoyo DTI. The review was in December 2021.

This kit has hundreds of uses on motorcycles and in workshops from truing up a spoked wheel, through measuring camshaft lift, checking fork stanchion straightness to inspecting brake disc runout.

The set has a finger DTI (Dial Test Indicator) gauge as well as a plunger type instrument. The magnetic base and supporting arm are what make this set so extraordinary. The unusual arm allows the DTI to be moved into any position and easily locked there

Laser Electronic Borescope

Laser Electronic Borescope

This borescope can save the owner many hours of work when retrieving dropped items from inaccessible areas on bikes and cars. It is also invaluable for diagnosis giving you the opportunity to look inside engines, gearboxes etc without the time and expensive of a full strip.

The camera and LED lighting is 3.9mm diameter at the end of a 100cm probe enabling it to get into some very tight places. The full colour 2.4" screen is clear and easy to use. The brightness of the probe lights is easily adjustable. The camera also come with some clip-on tools; a mirror for when you need to look at something that you can't get the camera straight on eg the vales in a cylinder head, a hook to pick up items and a magnet.
The unit can record still photographs as well as video to a micro SD card. The unit can also be plugged straight into a computer and even a screen for a larger picture.

Ralph - "The magnet on my Laser bore scope has saved my bacon today, when I dropped a small piece of metal down the cam chain tunnel of a '77 Z1000 engine. Where is landed, inside the centre crank shaft bearing cap, it would have been impossible to find without this very small diameter probe and impossible to remove with a standard magnetic pickup tool. Without this borescope I would have had to remove and completely strip the engine/gearbox unit to retrieve it"

Dial Guage Ignition Timing Set

Dial Guage Ignition Timing Set

Many bikes, especially classic two strokes like Kawasaki H1, H2, S1, S2, S3, KHs etc had inaccurate ignition marks from the factory, some so bad that if you timed the bike from them you would be holing pistons! Many factory workshop manuals admit this. Many set the timing mark as a piston height before TDC (Top Dead Centre). This means that you screw the applicable adapters into the spark plug hole to hold the dial gauge in the correct place and turn the engine over until the piston is shown by the dial gauge indicates the piston to be at the top of the stroke or TDC. You can then turn the engine backwards until the dial indicates that you have dropped the correct amount eg Kawasaki S2 fires with the piston at 2.4mm before TDC (BTDC) and you can then re-mark the flywheel or back plate correctly. This kit contains a dial gauge, extentions for the dial gauge plunger, adapter for the dial gauge and an extention for this adapter and adapters to fit 10mm, 12mm and 14mm plug holes. This is a professional set but, as can be seen from the photo, the plating on some of the adapters leaves a bit to be desired. Whist we don't like the qaulity of finish it is a perfectly useable product at a very good price.

Cylinder Bore Measuring Set

Cylinder Bore Measuring Set

This is the perfect set for establishing the condition of motorcycle cylinder bores. This set will allow you to measure wear of the bores accurately as shown in factory workshop manuals to establish if the bores are within tolerance or if they need a re-bore. You can measure concentricity, parallelism as well as actual dimensional accuracy. All you need to go with the set is a set of micrometer screw gauges which you'll need to measure the pistons as well.
• This set is suitable for bores from 50mm to 160mm.
• If you need a size outside this range please drop us an e-mail.

150mm Digital Caliper

150mm Digital Caliper

This is not the highest quality Japanese made instrument, but it is a very reasonably priced and serviceable tool for a DIY workshop.

It is perfect for measuring shims etc. It will measure outside and inside diameters as well as depth in both inches and millimeters. No workshop should be without a set of calipers. Vernier calipers are great when you're in your early twenties but for those of us who are fifty plus a digital readout is a much better bet

Electronic Brake Fluid Tester

Electronic Brake Fluid Tester

This is a tool we have only just discovered ourselves; and we are bowled over by it. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means that it absorbs water. If it has more than a few percent of water it should be changed. But how do you tell? Obviously with one of these testers! If in doubt change it; it's not that expensive. Water in the brake fluid will corrode the working parts of your braking system, which isn't a good thing! The most common problem is that the aluminium of the caliper, behind the piston seal corrodes and pushes the seal too tightly against the piston which means that you need more pressure to move the piston against the pads. This effectively reduces your braking efficiency and will eventually sieze the caliper altogether. Another issue with water in the fluid is that as the brakes are applied the friction makes them heat up and as water only reaches 100°C before boiling, the water in the fluid turns into steam making the fluid compressible and further reducing the efficiency of the brakes. As bikers, we are vulnerable enough at the hands of car drivers who seem hell bent on killing us off as a race, without having iffy brakes!

Laser Professional Leakdown Tester

Laser Professional Leakdown Tester

This is a serious professional leakdown tester. Most only work at much lower pressures, whereas this one works at upto 100psi (7bar) enabling it to detect leaks far more quickly. Unlike a basic compression tester that can on occassion give misleading information, this tool is never fooled. If you have a valve leaking, you can hear the air escaping through either the inlet or exhaust port identifying the culprit quickly and easily. If the combustion gases are passing the pistons rings then you'll detect air coming out of the breather.

• 100 psi (7 Bar) working pressure shows the source of compression loss as well as the percentage loss via the gauges.

• Adaptors: M10 x 1.0, M12 x1.25, M14 x 1.25, M14 x 1.25 extra long

• M14 x 1.25 and M12 x 2.25 x 238mm long adaptor for deep seated plugs.

• Adaptor hose for diesel injection adaptors (as supplied in Laser Part No. 4510) 470mm long

• Adaptor hose for petrol 670mm long

Antifreeze Tester - Ethylene Glycol

Antifreeze Tester - Ethylene Glycol

Easy to read indicator designed for modern Ethylene Glycol antifreeze. Also suitable for use on OAT antifreeze. Number of floating discs indicates the level of coolant freeze protection. Tests both hot and cold coolant strength. Reads in Celsius and Fahrenheit. Floating orange disc shows over protection and loss of coolant efficiency. A 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water will give full coolant protection and is suitable for most climates.

Do bear in mind that you should always use deionised (distilled) water in motorcycle cooling systems.
