Laser Locking Brake Piston Piston Remval Tool
This is the best piston style piston removal tool we have come across by a country mile. No plier type tool will ever match the Laser collet kit, but this tool is very impressive.
Designed to grip the caliper piston from the inside and lock on allowing significant rotational force to be apply to free off and remove stuck brake caliper pistons.
For removing or freeing off hollow brake caliper pistons.
Size range: 19mm to 55mm.
Size range also suitable for cars (dependent on piston size).
Adjustable locking mechanism.
Knurled plier heads to increase grip.

Brake Lever Lock
When you've got a bit of air in a brake system that just wont shift, slipping this handy tool over the front brake lever will hold the brakje on hard and thereby effectively leave mastercylinder valve open so that any air bubble in the system, over time will find their way out again. If it's a real pig, leave it on over night and in the morning you will wake up to a nice stiff brake.
This tool is also great when transporting bikes to keep the front brake locked on.
We have been test driving this new tool in our own workshops for some time now and find it indespensible!

Electronic Brake Fluid Tester
This is a tool we have only just discovered ourselves; and we are bowled over by it. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means that it absorbs water. If it has more than a few percent of water it should be changed. But how do you tell? Obviously with one of these testers! If in doubt change it; it's not that expensive. Water in the brake fluid will corrode the working parts of your braking system, which isn't a good thing! The most common problem is that the aluminium of the caliper, behind the piston seal corrodes and pushes the seal too tightly against the piston which means that you need more pressure to move the piston against the pads. This effectively reduces your braking efficiency and will eventually sieze the caliper altogether. Another issue with water in the fluid is that as the brakes are applied the friction makes them heat up and as water only reaches 100°C before boiling, the water in the fluid turns into steam making the fluid compressible and further reducing the efficiency of the brakes. As bikers, we are vulnerable enough at the hands of car drivers who seem hell bent on killing us off as a race, without having iffy brakes!

Locking Brake Piston Removal Tool
This is a new tool and we're pretty imprssed with it.It locks its grips into the piston so you can concentrate your efforts on turning the piston and pulling it out without having to gripping hard to hold the tool in the piston as well. Whilst it isn't as good as the
Laser
piston removal kit, it is considerably better than the plier style tools.
If you're restoring rough old bikes there is
no
substitute for the
Laser
kit, but providing you don't allow your calipers to become seriously corroded, this tool will give good service.

Laser Brake Caliper Piston Removal Tool
This new tool has just been released by Laser and whilst we already have a good number of piston removal tools already, we really like the quality of this tool despite a very modest price tag. The ratchet locking device seems to work very well. It's a very well made professional tool!

Yamaha Blue Spot Caliper Dismantling Tool
Our last batch of these were faulty and we have only just found out. We have some more being made. If you have a faulty one please let us know and we will replace it.
Yamaha's iconic Blue Spot calipers are a great set of stoppers and are often bought second hand from breakers to upgrade the brakes on older bikes such as the FJ1200, onto which they bolt straight on. The problem is that people don't change their brake fluid as often as they should and these brakes suffer from corrosion.
When corrosion gets behind the seals, they are forced against the pistons seizing them. As these calipers can't be split you can't use a standard piston removal tool so you are stuffed. When the calipers were made they were line bored and plugs inserted, which are secured in place with the 'blue spot' nuts for which there are no tools available. Yamaha claim in their manuals that they can't be taken out and death will be the reward for those who try :)
In reality they can be taken out with this tool and a 22mm socket/ring spanner. This tool is machined from aluminium so that it is less likely to mark the soft 'blue spot' nuts. There is an 'o' ring sealing the plug, which Yamaha do not supply, but we can! The cynical amongst you might think that Yamaha are better off selling a whole new caliper, but we couldn't possibly comment! We must however emphasize that these are
NOT
standard 'o' rings. Standard 'o' are not compatible with DOT 4 brake fluid; use them and Yamaha's warning might be brought home.
Once the plugs are out it is easy to drive out the outer seized pistons with a drift and the inner ones can be removed with
a caliper piston removal tool
