Heat Shrink Sleeve

Halogen free flexible polyolefin heat shrink sleeving makes a great insulator for for terminals and groups of wires. When making a wiring loom we tend to use loom tape for the large sections of the harness and heat shrink for the smaller branches.

Continuous operating temperature -55ºC to 125ºC. Flame retardant to UL224. Shrink temperature 100ºC. Shrink
ratio 2 to 1.

We sell this by the metre in a variety of sizes. Internal diameters 3.2mm shrinks to 1.6mm, 4.8mm shrinks to 2.4mm, 6.4mm shrinks to 3.2mm, 9.5mm shrinks to 4.8mm, 12.7mm shrinks to 6.4mm & 25.4mm shrinks to 12.7mm

Electrical Heat Shrink Kit

Complete kit for fitting heat shrink insulation to electrical wiring. This comprehensive kit contains different coloured heat shrink in a variety of different sizes together with a neat little gas torch which is fueled from readily available cigarette lighter gas (Gas not included). The totch has piezo electric self ignitor, so no messing about with matches. If is fabulously portable.

We have always used an electric heat gun in our workshop, and so were sceptical of the value of such kit, but still took one on to try. We were very surpised at how usable the kit is, which is why we are now comfortable offering it for sale. Whilst we would still use the heat gun for building whole looms we have now taken to using this little torch as weapon of choice for smaller jobs. We're hoping that the manufacturers rep has forgotten we have the demonstrator - if not we'll have to buy one!

Polyester Braided Sleeving

Expandable braided sleeving is flame retardant and halogen free. It offers durable abrasion resistance in a wide range of industrial applications. The open weave construction allows easy installation on a bundle of hoses and cables. The construction of the braid allows the sleeving to be expanded up to 300%. Ideal for applications in cable harnesses where wire and cable are required to have tough and durable protection.

Nominal sizes indicate flat width. The sleeving has an expandable character, the below sizes are to the nearest standard size.
Nominal Flat Size: 5mm Expands from 3mm to 9mm
Nominal Flat Size: 8mm Expands from 5mm to 12mm
Nominal Flat Size: 12mm Expands from 8mm to 17mm
Nominal Flat Size: 20mm Expands from 13mm to 33mm

It should be noted that whilst this product gives great protection it frays very easily so should be melted on the end or finished as shown in the pictures with heat shrink sleeve, which is our prefered method of use.

PVC Sleeving

This is the type of sleeving used by most OEM motorcycle manufacturers for wiring looms.

General purpose PVC sleeving suitable for bundling of cables and protection against abrasion.

The wall thickness is 0.5mm and is available with internal diameter of 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm and 20mm which should cover all uses on bikes.

Woven Heat Resistant Sleeving

Some bikes use heat resistant sleeving to protect ignition wires and alternator wires that are clipped to the engine block.

This product is made from braided 'E' glass yarn coated with acrylic resin. It is suitable for continuous heat of 155°C (Class F). It is resistant to abrasion which is important for protecting wiring subject to road debris being fired at it from the tyres.

The 6mm is perfect for three 2mm² wires from an alternator. You can even slip in two 1mm² wires for the neutral switch and oil pressure light if need be, based on using our thinwall wire, though it is little free space. We always finish of the end with a bit of 10mm heat shrink.

19mm or 25mm x Professional Wiring Loom Tape

When making up a new or replacement wiring harness or loom you should always use a non-stick loom tape. It has no adhesive as such, but you stretch it around the wiring and it clings to itself. At the end of a long piece it is acceptable to finish it off with a single wrap of insulating tape or heat shrink.

Many DIY bike mechanics wrap great swathes of PVC insulation tape around wiring which degrades over the years and one is left with an unholy sticky mess which is a nightmare to clean up. Isopropyl alcohol is the best to remoce such a mess, but it's so much better if you do the job properly in the first place.
