Fork top are usually made of aluminium and often coloured anodised, which looks terrible if it's butchered like the one pictured from Ralph's ZRX1200R. There is no excuse in this day and age with these composite tools being available to remove them without damage. 

(Wish the previous owners of some of my bikes used these tools! - Ralph)
