Servicing Brake Callipers
Brake systems on motorcycles very rarely get serviced anywhere near as often as they should. People seem to be aware that the engine oil needs changing, but other than an occasional peek at the pads, the brakes are largely ignored, until it's too late. The fluid is hygroscopic which means it absorbs water and should be changed at least every other year. The callipers should also be cleaned at least annually and more if you ride in the nasty weather.
In the following video we show you how to remove a set of callipers from an old 1977 Kawasaki Z1000A1, strip and clean them and refit to the bike. This bike's front brakes are always very difficult to bleed, but the big Zed was hand when the video needed to be made.
Sadly in this litigious age we live in, we have to state that the contents of this video are given freely to help you our customers service your bikes for your safety and enjoyment, but we will not be held responsible for anything bad that happens to you or your property after you have watched it.
In Memory of John Hopkins 10th February1960 ~ 2nd April 2016
My very good friend and star of the above videos, John Hopkins, sadly lost his twenty year battle with a degenerative disease in April. He fought long and hard, amazing doctors with his lust for life. He rode at every available opportunity, even when he was so ill he needed friends to help him get on. John had an infectious love of joy and excitement and really lived his life to the full. He would never let an opportunity for fun pass him by and encouraged all his friends to do likewise, even before the heinous, evil virus attacked his heart, starting the swinging of a medical Sword of Damocles. His passing has left a huge whole in my heart and that of his other friends and his widow and three children. As long as there is breath in my body I shall have fond memories of John.
