4amp Intelligent Battery Charger

A mains powered 4A intelligent battery charger for use on 6V and 12V automotive batteries. Fully automatic, it features a 10-stage charging cycle which monitors the state of the battery and adjusts the charging output to suit. Automatically drops to a trickle charge of <1 amp when the battery is fully charged (a separate maintenance mode is also available) to avoid overcharging.

Suitable for use on motorcycles, cars, vans and boats etc.

Laser Diamond Tip Engraver

This little tool works far better than it looks as though it would. The diamond tip is powered by a couple of AAA batteries (included). It is very easy to use and will engrave most surfaces including metal, glass, ceramic plastics and many more. You just use it like a pen with very little pressure like a fountain pen.
We, obviously, use it on bikes and whilst we haven't had any desire to engrave glass or ceramics, we have used it on plenty of motorcycle parts. If you're striping a multi cyclinder engine you can use it to mark up the pistons. Price at less than a modest round in a pub, it will pay for itself in short shift. We refused to give back our sample from Laser Tools as it was far too useful.

Rocol RTD Cutting Compound

We have been using RTD for donkey's years. It's not cheap, but that said it does go a long way. This paste is perfect for drilling, reaming and tapping. We've always used the tin as it's great to dip the drill or tap in before cutting. It says on the tin that it makes cutting easier and doubles the life of the tools, and that's exactly what it does!

Rocol RTD Cutting Liquid

We've been using RTD liquid for years. We don't have a suds pump on either the lathe or the milling machine and so use RTD instead. It seems expensive but it goes a long way and you will be enjoying it's effects on metal cutting long after you've forgotten how much you paid for the bottle. Wire Locking Pliers

This are great value wire locking pliers. All racers know that they're not allowed on a race track unless various fasteners on their bike are safety wire locked eg sump plug. If an engine spills it's fluids on a track it can be massively dangerous for everyone. Many folk that take part in track days should also wire lock fasteners on their bike. Lock wire or safety wire is a type of positive locking device that prevents fasteners from loosening due to vibration as well as other forces. Safety wiring also serves as a visual indicator that the fasteners have been properly tightened.

Typically, the wire is threaded through a hole drilled into a fastener or part, then twisted and anchored onto a second fastener or part, then twisted again. Damaged Cap Screw Extractor Set

Cap screws or hex socket screws and bolts are fairly vulnerable to rounding out, partiularly stainless fasteners. Countersunk hex sockets screws and button heads are an absolute nightmare if they're over tightened, because the hex socket is fairly small compared with the screw diameter. When we were offered this product to test we were fairly sceptical, but we would not let the rep have back the sample once we had tried it! For a tool set that only costs a small round of drinks, it is amazing.

The standard 1/4" bit drivers cover 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm heads.

The 7mm, 8mm and 10mm use a 10mm hex driver and there is a 1/2"drive to 10mm bit holder included in this comprehensive set.

Laser 4 Piece Stud Extractor Set

4 Piece roller type stud extractor set. This type of stid extractor is usually our first port of call, because it is more gentle than the heavy duty extractor and less likely to mark the studs.

When you're trying to remove a waisted studs ie one where the plain section of the stud is smaller that the threaded, section it will not always grip the waisted section. If you use it on the threaded section it will probably destroy the threads. With such studs you can either try locking two nuts together or you will need to use the heavy duty extractor.

This set is suitable for 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm studs. The smaller sizes use a 3/8" drive driver and the larger two a 1/2" drive. All four can be used with a suitable sized spanner of socket also. Suitable for left and right hand threads

9 Piece Screw & Bolt Extractor Set

Good quality 9 piece metric screw, bolt and stud extractor kit. No one wants shear off bolts etc, but in the real world they do fail from time to time, for a number of reasons and if you can get them out yourself it's a major bonus.

Extracting screws and bolts, even with the best equipment, isn't child's play and requires a good degree of accuracy drilling the pilot holes. Using cheap 'easy outs' are a very bad idea indeed and the name is an oxymoron! They will invariably snap off and then you're really in the do do, with a visit to an engineer with a spark erosion machine where you will have a reasuringly high bill.

If you're going to extract sheared off threaded fasteners, ensure that you are very careful, particularly with the small sizes. Whilst these are excellent industrial quality, no tool is indestructable if you apply too much torque. Ensure that you drill the remains of the fastener dead centre with a good quality drill bit. It doesn't hurt to pilot drill the holes and open them up a tiny bit at a time. If it is a steel bolt in aluminum alloy heat the area up as much as is safe and use a pentrating oil such as ACF50.

Soda Blaster

Soda blasting is a great way to clean up bike parts as it is very gentle compared with bead blasting, wire brushing etc. We had had a DIY go at soda blasting in the past and were not impressed with the results, so when this new product became available we were more than a little sceptical. When the test unit arrived we gave it a go on a set of painted throttle bodes and we were blown away (pun intended)! We have bought the test unit and are very happy to sell the product. This unit comes with 1Kg of Soda media.

The blasting will not damage glass, rubber or plastic and you need very little masking when blasting. Unlike glass beads the media is not going to damage delicate engine parts. From a mess perspective you would be ill advised to use it indoors, but it is fine to use on the lawn or whereever as the used media is 100% harmless to the environment and will eventually simply blow away.

The manufactures recommends using a compressor capable of providing at least 180 litres/minute or 6.5 CFM; any compressor over 1½ HP should be fine. It is rated for 6 - 12 Bar (87 - 174 psi). We will supply it with either PCL (RHS in photo below) or HiFlo (LHS in photo below) connectors depending on what is on your air line.

Scalpel and 5 Blades

Swann-Morton have been making the finest quality scalpels and handles in Sheffield, England for over 80 years. Whilst they are obviously most commonly thought of as a medical tool, we have been using them in our workshop for years and can't imagine life without them. The list of uses is literally endless. Common uses are for trimming masking when painting bike parts as well as scraping clean machined surfaces. Whilst they make a huge range of blades and handles, the old No3 handle with 10A blades is undoubtably the most useful. Seal and 'O' Ring Removal Set

We bought this new product a few months ago and have found it to be excellent. It's one of those tool sets you never knew you needed; but now we wouldn't let it out of our workshop for all the tea in China. The product below was fantastic compared with screwdrivers etc - but this set is another ball game. There are tools for every seal we have come across since it's purchase. It not only gets them out more easily but also removes them in such a way that you could re-use them if they were in good condition originally, though we tend to renew seals as a matter of course. This is a very comprehensive tap and die set which is great for bikes as it has plenty of metric fine threads. The downside is at this price it isn't top end industrial quality, so if you're regularly cutting threads in 316 marine grade stainless, you'll need to dig deeper :) For cleaning out threads and making odd parts and repairs for your project bikes it will be fine. For high quality industrial threading tools you will pay the cost of this set for one size of taps (1st, 2nd taper and plug). A particular bonus with this set is that it has M7 which is uncommon but is often used on motorcycle caliper bleed nipples, which often get neglected and need the threads clearing!
